Bali Travel Tips: Visas, Money, Weather and Safety

A little preparation makes a first trip to Bali much smoother. Always confirm current rules with official sources before you travel, because requirements change.

Before you go

• Entry: Check the visa type you need and the passport validity required by Indonesian immigration.
• Tourism levy: Bali has introduced a levy for foreign visitors, so check how it is currently paid.
• Insurance: Choose travel cover that includes medical care and activities such as diving or scooters.

On the island

• Money: The currency is the Indonesian rupiah. Use ATMs at banks and exchange only at authorised changers.
• Weather: Hot and humid all year. Pack light clothing, rain protection and sunscreen.
• Safety: Keep valuables out of sight on scooters, respect local rules and hold a valid licence if you drive.
• Connectivity: A local SIM or eSIM is inexpensive and works across the island.
