Uluwatu Guide: Cliff Temple, Surf Breaks and Sunset Views
23 October 2026 2x Destinations
Uluwatu occupies the southern tip of the Bukit Peninsula, where limestone cliffs drop straight into the Indian Ocean. It combines dramatic scenery, world-known surf and a growing choice of cafes and beach clubs.

Highlights
- Uluwatu Temple: A sea temple on a cliff edge. Dress modestly and watch your sunglasses around the monkeys.
- Beaches: Padang Padang, Bingin and Suluban are reached by steps down the cliff, and the effort is worth it.
- Kecak dance at sunset: A fire-lit performance staged near the temple.
- Surf: Waves here suit intermediate and advanced surfers, while beginners do better at calmer beaches elsewhere.
Tips
Arrive early for sunset, as parking and seating fill up. Bring cash for small entrance fees and carry water, because the cliffs are exposed to sun.
Travel with a local driver
Traffic from Kuta and Seminyak can be slow in the afternoon. PT Nickholas Satya Salira offers drivers and rental cars to make the trip simple.
